Esports Team WRT joins World eX

Landschlacht, February 26, 2021 – With Esports Team WRT, the new RCCO World eX Championship adds yet another world-class team to its esports racing series for the cause of #RacingForTheClimate. The Belgian squad boosts the grid with even more real-world motorsport experience and a strong driver line-up, all in the name of providing motorsport entertainment combined with a strong message of sustainability by raising awareness for the climate.

The W Racing Team, known as Team WRT, is a professional outfit that was founded in 2009 by former racing driver Vincent Vosse and entrepreneur Yves Weerts. Since its inception, Team WRT has gone on to become one of the leading teams in the world of GT and touring car racing around the world, as well as expanding into LMP2 competition this year. In 2021, the Team WRT livery will also be adorning the 1,000-hp eX ZERO prototype. The Team WRT driver line-up includes professional driver Dries Vanthoor from the real world of GT racing, alongside esports racer Fabrice Cornelis. “Looking at all the big names involved, but also those still to be announced, I am looking forward to seeing Team WRT regular Dries Vanthoor and Urano driver Fabrice Cornelis on the World eX grid in an Esports Team WRT car,” says Vincent Vosse, Team Principal of Team WRT. “It’s a great initiative, run on a quality platform, but also with an exciting future when looking at the concept. Of course, although esports is not completely new to us, as we successfully entered the 2020 Virtual Le Mans 24 Hours, we still have a lot to learn! This is especially the case when preparing a 1,000 kg/1,000 hp electric prototype. With World eX, we are probably entering the next big thing in esports racing.”

With the addition of Esports Team WRT, Belgium officially becomes the fifth nation represented on the World eX grid for its inaugural season, following teams from China, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The final entry list for Season 1 will be announced on March 6.

“We’re very happy to have WRT, another professional real-world team, joining us in World eX. They’ve achieved numerous successes in motorsport around the world and I am sure that they will also be successful in esports racing, bringing their renowned level of professionalism and competition with them,” says Mike Rockenfeller, CEO and co-founder of the RCCO E-Sport AG. “The way they are moving forward now with the LMP2 project and also World eX, it just goes to show how forward-thinking they are as a team. We are looking forward to having them on our virtual grid.”
The opening round of the 2021 World eX season will be the eX Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone, broadcast on March 11 from 20:00 CET on motorsport.tv and other channels (www.rccoworldex.com/watch).
