Wildcard qualifying begins for World eX season opener

Landschlacht, March 1, 2021 – Esports racing drivers from all around the world will have the chance to fight for the world championship title and prestigious prizes in the new RCCO World eX Championship, which combines esports racing with entertainment and the message of sustainability by raising awareness for the environment.

Ten teams with 20 permanent drivers from “real world” and esports racing will compete in the first season of the new esports racing series, which will air on motorsport.tv and other channels as a part of the #RacingForTheClimate Broadcast Show, starting at 20:00 CET on March 11, 2021. The strong World eX grid will include pro racing drivers like new Indycar star Romain Grosjean, Asian Le Mans Series champion Ye Yifel and defending Formula E champion Félix António da Costa. They will compete with some of the world’s fastest esports racing drivers like Erhan Javoski and Michi Hoyer. The full line-up for Season 1 and the inaugural eX Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone will be released live on the new World eX Twitch channel at 20:00 CET on Saturday, March 6.

Two places on the grid of each RCCO World eX Championship round will be reserved for wildcard drivers. One guest driver will be selected by the organizers at RCCO E-Sport AG, while esports racers from all around the world can qualify for the second spot in a hot lap qualifying process with the 1,000 hp all-electric eX ZERO organized by Studio 397 via the new competition system on rFactor 2.

The fastest qualifier will make it onto the grid of the next eX Prix and thus have a shot at the world championship title. The unique race format of World eX with 18 short rallycross-inspired races per event allows wildcard drivers to qualify for the Champion Shootout on the famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife in November, which will decide the world championship. All of the overall winners of the ten World eX events qualify for the grand finale.

Each World eX round will have a prestigious prize: The innovative Bio-Hybrid, a stunning four-wheel pedelec worth 10,000 Euros, will be at stake as the “gadget of the month” for the season opener at Silverstone. A draw at the end of the #RacingForTheClimate Broadcast Show will decide who will get the chance to win the prize: the overall race winner or a spectator who has donated to the #RacingForTheClimate Jackpot.

Hot lap qualifying will be open on rFactor 2 until March 6, 20:15 CET, with the winner of the wildcard entry announced live on Twitch.
