Tom Kristensen’s TK9 E-SPEED team enters World eX

Landschlacht, March 6, 2021 – Nine-time Le Mans winner and former World Endurance champion Tom Kristensen has founded the TK9 E-SPEED team and enters esports racing in the new RCCO World eX Championship with the aim of promoting young talent. Spearheading the team’s entry will be real racing driver and former touring car champion Lasse Sørensen and esports racer Andreas Jochimsen.

“World eX is an exciting project that has a lot of potential with an ultra-competitive grid of drivers and powerful cars. The format, the set-up and the media package are all very professional,” says Tom Kristensen. “I spoke to World eX founders Mike Rockenfeller and Thomas Voigt and decided to add a team of Danish youngsters to the grid.” TK9 E-SPEED becomes the ninth team to enter World eX and the first from Denmark, which takes the tally of nations represented on the grid to eight, joining Belgium, China, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Tom Kristensen is no stranger to the RCCO family. In the past, he has taken part in a race of the “big small” RCCO racing series for slot cars at the Shell Technology Center in Hamburg. He was also the broadcast host of the RCCO #RaceHome Charity Racing Series in 2020, which was also founded by Mike Rockenfeller during the first lockdown and won by DTM and Formula E star Nico Müller.

“I am delighted that Tom Kristensen has entered a team in World eX. We have spent a lot of time together in real-world motorsport within the Audi Sport family,” says Mike Rockenfeller, CEO and co-founder of the RCCO E-Sport AG. “He is ‘Mister Le Mans’, a true legend. He has earned huge respect for his incredible achievements at Le Mans, his record number of victories at Sebring, his wins in the Race of Champions and many other racing series. He has an important role within the FIA and is a perfect ambassador for leading brands. Having Tom involved in World eX along with many other strong personalities shows what we want to achieve with our project. #RacingForTheClimate is more than just esports racing.”

The TK9 E-SPEED team’s starting numbers of 7 and 9 also include special meaning for team founder Tom Kristensen. The number 7 has always been a favorite of Kristensen and was on the side of his Le Mans-winning cars in 1997 and 2003, as well as his title-winning All-Japan F3 Championship car in 1993 and two seasons in the DTM (2006 and 2007). The number 9 is featured as part of the team’s name and is a reference to Kristensen’s nine overall victories at Le Mans.

Silverstone will play host to the World eX season opener with the eX Prix of Great Britain broadcast on March 11 from 20:00 CET on motorsport.tv and other channels (www.rccoworldex.com/watch).
